Celebrated Halifax artist Yolanda Poplawska has created twenty-six distinctly Haligonian scenes to accompany the letters of the alphabet. 

Only in Halifax does "A" stand for anchor, "E" for explosion, and "T" for tugboat. 

Children will be enchanted by Yolanda's colourful and contemporary illustrations, which depict locales such as the gazebo at the Public Gardens, the lighthouse at McNabs' Island, buskers juggling on the waterfront, rowing on Lake Banook, and many, many more. Words chosen are simple common nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Yolanda Poplawska is a former graphic designer with an artistic foundation in visual arts. Art has been an inspiration all her life. Her work has appeared in magazines, galleries, and picture books, including the popular Theodore Too series. The hardcover edition of A Halifax ABC was shortlisted for the 2006 Lillian Shepherd Memorial Award for Excellence in Illustration. Yolanda lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
