PLEASE read this book, especially if you are anxious about labour!
This book was so incredibly helpful. I come from a medical background and my first thoughts about pregnancy were that I wanted to use ALL the drugs when it came to labour and delivery. I didn't think I ever wanted to go through pregnancy but eventually changed my mind and decided to have a baby. I didn't know much at all about babies, pregnancy, or labour and delivery. This book was a really interesting read. The birth stories are so nice. But I appreciated the scientific background and the statistics. In addition to reading this book, I also read a couple of textbooks about obstetrics and evidence-based anesthesia and analgesia for obstetrics. After reading everything I decided that I wanted to try for a delivery without an epidural. I really did not know much about my pain control options prior to getting pregnant, but after reading this book and a few others, and talking with my doctor I really felt I understood all my options as well as non-medical methods of getting through labour and delivery. This book made me actually feel EXCITED to give birth. It felt like a challenge that I would be able to meet. I used several of the methods in the book during my labour and delivery, which could not have gone better. It's an awesome read and no matter how you plan to give birth, this book can help psych you up for the big day and give you lots of nice things to think about.
