The first baby spoon of its kind.

On a summer morning in 2011, two MIT friends – Marcel and Trevor – started brainstorming ways to change how babies transition to solid food, which led to an idea that evolved into the current design – a spoon engineered to improve the feeding experience for infants and their caretakers as they move from fluids to solids.

Initial observation determined that most existing baby spoons are only miniature versions of adult spoons - often too wide and too deep for infants' mouths. As a result, infants rarely get to the food at the back of these spoons and that is where most of the mess comes from. Close observation of feeding habits and waste helped us develop a product that was truly unique in its geometry. Through early prototype tests, this new spoon worked exceptionally well with Spuni's "test babies."

"Making a product for infants, especially one that touches both mouth and food, is a serious matter," says Co-Founder of Spuni, Marcel Botha. "As we engaged experts in the fields of material science and environmental health, we chose the best available and safest materials for the manufacturing of the first generation spoon."

Spuni's patented tulip design naturally encourages babies to latch onto, and suck and swallow food from the spoon, offering babies a more manageable portion with each spoonful.

Spuni effectively solves a primary stress point between parents and infants; a must-have spoon for all new parents.

We specifically chose not to use any silicone or latex to reduce the risk of any infant material allergies. We selected materials based on input from professionals in the fields of material science, manufacturing and environmental health. We have decided to use only Medical Grade Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPE) for the manufacturing of the Spuni outer layer. This is the same material used for pacifiers and baby bottle nipples. The inner material, and the material of the future solid Spuni™ will be from an FDA approved Polypropylene (PP). All of our materials are non-toxic and have been laboratory certified to be Phthalate, BPA, BPS and PVC free.
