In 2016 Lisa's sons contracted Lyme disease, one of the fastest spreading infectious diseases in the world. She lives on Nova Scotia’s South Shore, where the disease has been declared an epidemic.
Both boys contracted Lyme from a tick, a tick that was so small she didn't even know they were bitten. The oldest son was affected the most with joint pain so severe he couldn't walk at times. Thankfully, her sons are doing well as of today. However, their symptoms wax and wane, and they have learned that, once disseminated in the body, Lyme can be impossible to get rid of. This experience scared her terribly and got her thinking about prevention. Lyme can be caught again and again, and multiple diseases are spread by ticks.
She wasn't comfortable using a chemical-based tick repellant, so after a lot of research, talking to others and learning about Lyme and ticks, she started to look into natural alternatives. She was pleased to find studies done in the United States specifically on certain essential oils and ticks. Then, with trial and error and more research, she found the right mix to use on her family and friends. She is very grateful to have the opportunity to share it with everyone else.
There are many valid scientific studies that have been completed to measure the effectiveness of essential oils against ticks. Atlantick is has taken the initiative to have our specific formula studied for effectiveness repelling ticks at Acadia University in Wolfville, NS
Why are efficacy studies important? Because while a particular essential oil may deter ticks there are other factors involved when you start mixing them with other oils and liquids. Are you diluting it too much? Will a mixture of oils be as effective as the individual oil? Creating a formula that will be as effective as possible is important when taking into consideration the damage ticks can do to our bodies.
